She Stands Alone |
|
...punch drunk, but not blind |
|
There’s a chance of showers - no chance of rain
Romance has left her hollow cheeks sucked in
& on the verge of welling up she pauses
Too early for reflection
Too late for gripping on
She stands alone
There’s a smile on her but not inside
Romance has left her thin but not unkind
She has half a mind to burn her clothes
She hates the voice of reason
& the fragile little smile
She stands alone
Waiting for the blush of love to leave her
Draining from her face as surely as her heart deceived her
He said he needed her
He said he needed her -
But now she stands alone
There’s a hint of boredom - no hint of pain
Romance has left her punch-drunk, but not blind
She is harsh, but nowhere near an island
She pouts a little softer
But her eyes are still the same
She stands alone
Waiting for the blush of love to leave her
Draining from her face as surely as her heart deceived her
He said he needed her
He said he needed her -
But now she stands alone
