Every Stop
...tries to get beneath the skin that covers up the soul of him

A man sits on the subway train
His reflection’s on the window pane
Across the way - across the years
He’s been riding on the train
Riding on the train

A newspaper lies where it fell
Down from his lap - from a private hellish
Part of him that soaks up the news
& wonders how he should feel
Wonders how he should feel

& every stop don’t stop him thinking
Every thought don’t stop him feeling
Every feeling don’t stop
When he gets off the train
He gets off the train
He gets off the train....

A man stands up on the subway train
The motion rocks his tired frame
He rolls his eyes and he shuffles his feet
He glances at the time
Glances at the time

An advertisement jumps at him
& tries to get beneath the skin
That covers up the soul of him
& stretches to expression
Stretches to expression

& every stop don’t stop him thinking
Every thought don’t stop him feeling
Every feeling don’t stop
When he gets off the train
He gets off the train
He gets off the train....
